CEO of Crypto.com Kris Marszalek announced today that the Cronos Chain mainnet launch has been postponed from Oct. 19 to Nov. 8 due to issues with the bridge modules and go-ethereum libraries. In anticipation, we wanted to amass a list of projects planning to launch on Cronos at or near the mainnet launch.
By launching a smart contract platform, Crypto.com is following in the footsteps of central exchanges (CEXes) Binance.com and Kucoin who released the Binance Smart Chain (‘BSC‘) and Kucoin Community Chain (‘KCC‘) earlier this cycle. BSC is reported to have anywhere between $18.4B to $30B in total value locked (‘TVL‘) on the blockchain as reported by DeFi Llama and DeFi Station respectively. KCC is reported to have $10M in TVL per DeFi Llama.
For emerging general-purpose blockchains, it seems that DEXs, lending & borrowing apps and early NFT profile picture collections seem to perform the best of the early projects launched on these chains. On BSC and KCC we have witnessed exaggerated J-curve price charts for coins in the first weeks/months of a blockchain’s existence as initial liquidity is both deposited and withdrawn by large investors from the chain for the first time. We have typically seen an initial large deposit of liquidity onto DEXes, and then a subsequent withdrawal of a portion of the capital. Investment in these early chains should be considered high-risk with high price volatility expected in the first months for these newly created coins.
