What’s an altcoin?

As per the Glossary on the Member Platform, an altcoin is “a cryptocurrency that functions similarly to, but not exactly the same as, bitcoin. Typically, the team who develops a cryptocurrency will publish a whitepaper and other writings (e.g. blog posts, documentation) that detail how the cryptocurrency is distinct from bitcoin.”
